Preliminary Task - Research & Planning

This page is where we will research and draft a school magazine which will be used as a template for our main task which is the music magazine. On this page I'll include examples from my work and explanations of why I used certain fonts, pictures, angles of camera etc.

Audience theory as a whole will help me construct a visually appealing magazine cover that appeals to diversion, personal relationships, esteem and self-actualisation as my preliminary task involves a school magazine. Therefore these values will definitely appeal to higher school students as they would feel the need to boost their esteem in school and be the best that they can be by self actualising. [11/01/2016]

This is my linguistic analysis of my cover including labels of what I'm going to include and what I could potentially include in my final design piece. [11/01/2016]

The background is designed to fit a simple look as many candidates in my survey have said that a simple look should be the design on the magazine. The colours are a contrast between lighter and darker shades in order to create a soft atmosphere. A blue font is used in order to make the writing stand out from the background. Christmas decorations were used as this issue is from december which gives a christmas theme to the cover making it more appealing. The pictures used include students doing experiments and workshop work creating things which allows people to think that this school strives to make their students independent learners.

Simple design of the contents page that I managed to make using a image modifying software called Gimp. I personally think that I could of put alot more thought into my contents page and spend more time on it as it is pretty basic and I aim to improve the standard of work of my contents page for my actual music magazine which is based on creativity. The program I used, Gimp, was a good choice of software as it is quite complex to use however, if used correctly and well, it can really re-define a bad contents page design into a good looking one. I could of used Photoshop or adobe effects, however those programs require alot of work and are not as easy to use like Gimp for example.

Personally I think that I did well on the cover page as It took me a long time to create a good background with colours that are not too bright yet not too dull so the design looks simple yet professional. I'd aim to put in more effort into my music magazine as I did into producing this cover page. Overall I think I did well however it looks a little basic for my liking.[05/01/2016]
